Before & After
FAQ Section
Does a root canal hurt?
Root canal treatment is performed with local anesthesia to keep the tooth and
surrounding area numb. The purpose of treatment is to remove infected or inflamed
tissue that may be causing significant tooth pain. Some temporary tenderness after
treatment is possible.
How do I know if I need a root canal?
Possible signs include persistent tooth pain, prolonged sensitivity to hot or cold, pain
when biting, swelling, discoloration of a tooth, or a recurring gum swelling near the
tooth. However, some teeth requiring root canal treatment show few symptoms, so an
examination and dental imaging are necessary for diagnosis.
How long does it take to recover from a root canal?
Many patients return to normal activities quickly after root canal treatment. Mild
tenderness when biting may occur for several days as the tissues around the tooth
heal. Persistent or worsening pain or swelling should be evaluated.
Why is a crown often necessary after a root canal?
A tooth requiring root canal treatment may already have significant structural damage
from decay, fractures, or previous restorations. A crown is often recommended for back
teeth to protect the remaining tooth structure and restore normal chewing function.
Whether a crown is necessary depends on the individual tooth and the amount of
healthy structure remaining.
